Boswa was established in 2006 by Herman Roos who recognized that Survival skills are there for ordinary people to learn. Only by living close to nature and our natural surroundings can we truly feel a kinship with the wilderness around us. Boswa now offer a survival training program where we teach survival skills to anyone willing to experience the wonderful world of bushcraft and survival.

At Boswa Survival we strive to offer the best survival courses in South-Africa and internationally and we believe that we are teaching complete skills on a professional level that make us highly competive (if not the best) in survival training ! We believe that by learning and practicing the vital skills necessary will you have the knowledge and confidence you need to safely travel and explore wild places. It is our job to make sure we teach you what you need to learn to do just that !

Meet the Boswa Team !

Herman Roos ( Owner and Instructor )

Herman trained over many years to become a Survival Instructor with the world renowned Survival School in the United Kingdom. Being close to nature is part of his life and always has been. Herman has learned from some of the best instructors in the world and has explored and traveled to some of the last true wilderness locations on earth. From the Arctic in the north of Sweden to the Jungles of Thailand, from the Highlands of Scotland to the Deserts and Bushveld of Africa, Herman has knowledge and experience covering most of the extreme environments of our planet. A true conservationist and someone who belief that deep inside every person there is a connection with nature and a yearning for adventure !

Herman is also qualified as a Technical Diver, a PADI Divemaster, a Rock Climbing instructor, a Kayaking Instructor, an Emergency First Response Instructor, a SAMSA Skipper, a Snake Expert, an Expedition Leader and have completed an extensive Mountain and Snow Rescue course.

 

Marius Steyl ( Instructor )

Marius also completed his first survival training course with Survival School in the UK under the expert guidance of Johnny Crocket and completed his instructor training in South-Africa under the guidance of Herman Roos. A medical doctor by profession, Marius spent most of his free time devoted to Bushcraft and Survival. He has a wealth of knowledge on wilderness medicine and are one of the best friction fire-lighting instructors you will find anywhere. His open-minded outlook on survival is reflected in the fact that he has an interest in both primitive and modern survival skills. Marius has an excellent teaching manner and his relaxed personality make him a very good instructor.

You will certainly learn some amazing skills from this guy and he is a true natural survivor !
